Mature petroleum hydrocarbons contamination in surface and subsurface waters of K?z?l?rmak Graben (Central Anatolia, Turkey): Geochemical evidence for a working petroleum system associated with a possible salt diapir

چکیده
Salt formations exist in K?z?l?rmak Graben (Central Anatolia, Turkey), which consists of volcano-sedimentary units, and it was stated previous studies that these have a diapiric structure. The adjacent basin, Ayhan Basin, contains bituminous shale operated coal deposits. For this reason, study, is aimed to investigate the oil gas potential by conducting TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) analysis on samples taken from natural cold-water resources making use thought hydrocarbon generation may come into existence those units basin. As consequence analyses performed, hydrocarbons been brought open all water samples. organic geochemical methods used find out source determined resources. disclosed n-alkane are mature petroleum derived peat/coal type matter (Type III kerogen, gas-prone). These hydrocarbon-rich waters can be regarded as evidence for availability working system associated with possible salt diapir identified using gravity magnetic data obtained investigation area.

The Effect of Urban Fuel Stations on Soil Contamination with Petroleum Hydrocarbons
Background:A critical environmental impact of the petroleum industry is the contamination of soil by oil and other related products which are highly toxic and exhibit molecular recalcitrance. Therefore, this study focused on investigating the total amount of petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) in soil of urban fuel stations in Hamedan City, Iran. Methods:Thirteen high traffic urban fuel stations ...
متن کاملBioaccumulation and translocation factors of petroleum hydrocarbons in Aeluropus littoralis
Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which consist of fused conjugated aromatic rings, not only are toxic to humans and other living organisms, but will also pollute groundwater. These compounds can be point source or non-point source and are one of the most widespread organic pollutants. Some of them are suspected carcinogens and are linked to other health problems. This study ...
متن کاملBiodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in hypersaline environments
Literature on hydrocarbon degradation in extreme hypersaline media presents studies that point to a negative effect of salinity increase on hydrocarbonoclastic activity, while several others report an opposite tendency. Based on information available in the literature, we present a discussion on the reasons that justify these contrary results. Despite the fact that microbial ability to metaboli...

Groundwater is one of our most valuable natural resource. More than 50% of the U.S. population depends on groundwater for domestic use and more than 95% of the rural population is dependent on groundwater. A major portion of industries and agriculture use groundwater. These numbers suggest that the personal and economic health of the nation is dependent on groundwater. Contamination of groundwa...
